Can I pick up a cake today?
Our custom cakes are by appointment only. We do not have custom cakes available for pick up or sale as each cake is made to order. Our Signature Cakes can be ordered one week in advance.
How far in advance should I place my order?
We accommodate a limited number of cakes for any given date depending on the complexity of the design. We require a minimum of two weeks notice on all cake orders; however, weddings and special events are often booked up to a year in advance. We can’t guarantee dates or pricing without a deposit, therefore we recommend you reserve your date as soon as you have confirmed your venue.
How do I order a custom cake?
To start the order process, please fill out our contact form and include the following information:
- the date of your event
- the occasion/nature of your event (wedding, birthday, baby shower, etc)
- the event location, delivery address, and delivery time
- how many people you will need to serve
- your daytime phone number
- your email address
- an idea of what kind of cake design you are looking for
We will contact you to discuss your order and/or schedule an appointment.
What are your prices?
Because our cakes are completely custom made and priced individually by the complexity of their design, we do not have a standard price list. There is a $75 minimum on any cake.
We are happy to work within your event budget and encourage you to contact us for a design/tasting appointment so that we can discuss your cake order in person.
What's your payment policy?
A 50% non-refundable deposit is required to reserve your order; the remainder is due at least two weeks prior to your event. Your order is not confirmed until we have received your signed contract and 50% non-refundable deposit.
Cake orders placed with less than two weeks notice require payment in full at the time of ordering. Deposits are non-refundable.
Event dates are held for you through the date of your appointment or quote, and five business days afterwards. If we do not receive a signed contract and 50% deposit within five business days of your appointment or quote, your date may become unavailable.
What is your delivery/set-up charge?
Delivery/set-up within the town of Huntsville is complimentary for any cake order over $100.
We are happy to delivery within the Muskoka area; delivery fees are calculated by distance traveled. Our standard delivery range is roughly four hours from Huntsville, ON. Longer deliveries are occasionally arranged, but must be determined on a case-by-case basis. Any delivery that totals more than eight travel hours is subject to an additional fee to cover food/lodging for our staff.
While it is generally not a problem for clients to transport smaller cakes, self-transporting any cake is at your own risk. Whimsical Bakery does not recommend clients self-transport 3D/sculptural cakes, cakes over 2 tiers tall, or any cake more than 3 hours and is not responsible for any damage that may occur to any client-transported cake once it has left our bakery.
Do you ship cakes or cupcakes?
We regret that we cannot ship cakes, petit fours or cupcakes. We can, however, ship cookies.
Can I schedule a cake tasting?
Cake tastings are available for wedding cakes and special occasion cakes for 75 guests or more and require at least one week’s advance notice. We charge a fee of $20 and include a variety of cupcakes to sample. If your order is made within five days of your tasting we will credit this fee to your account.
If you should need to reschedule or cancel your cake tasting we ask that you contact us no later than one week in advance. In the event that an appointment is missed or cancelled less than one week before the appointment your fee will not be refunded.
During the meeting we will discuss the design of your cake, so please bring any pictures, invitations, etc, that will help us come up with something perfect for your event. The tasting lasts up to one hour, and we ask that you arrive on time to ensure that you are allotted your full hour.
What flavours do you offer?
We have standard list of cake flavours and fillings. If you have a flavour in mind, let us know and we’ll do everything we can to make it for you!
What is fondant? Must it be used on my cake?
Fondant is a rolled icing made from sugar, gelatin and corn syrup. Keep in mind, the fondant is not a replacement for buttercream; rather it is a final coating on top of the buttercream which enrobes your cake, keeping it fresh and moist. Fondant can update an old fashioned design, and provides a more modern look overall. It also increases stability, seals in freshness, and makes the cake easier to handle, decorate, transport and slice. It is the most heat stable of any finish, making its use near mandatory in warm/humid weather months. It can be easily removed by anyone not wishing to eat it.
Can you do picture cakes?
Yes. We can take an image or picture of your choice and print it on sugar paper to be placed on your cake. These edible images can be added at an additional cost. Keep in mind we cannot copy images that are copyright and/or trademark protected. We also reserve the right not to print pictures we deem inappropriate.
Do you make cakes for those with nut allergies?
Although many of our cakes do not contain nuts, we cannot guarantee that traces of nuts are not present in our kitchen.
Why are custom cakes more expensive than those sold at grocery or chain stores?
Unlike chain stores that mass produce a small variety of standard design cakes, custom cakes are designed, baked, and decorated specifically for each client. These works of art take many hours to complete; for complex designs, days are needed. Cakes seen on television actually take days to weeks to prepare, not the 30-60 min of edited program actually shown.
We want to use Styrofoam tiers to increase the size or to lower the cost. Will you do that?
Our pricing is based on the amount of detail and handwork involved in carrying out a particular design. A Styrofoam tier still needs to be decorated and is subject to the same pricing guidelines as actual cake.
